At the African Youth Foundation, we recognize that the challenges facing young people are interconnected and require integrated solutions. Our cross-cutting programs are designed to strengthen communities through approaches that bring together leadership, inclusion, innovation, advocacy, and collaboration. Rather than addressing issues in isolation, we invest in holistic strategies that create lasting impact across social, economic, and institutional systems. Through partnerships and community-driven solutions, we work to build resilient ecosystems where young people can thrive and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development across Africa and the diaspora.
Youth Leadership
We believe that young people are not merely beneficiaries of development, but architects of the future. The African Youth Foundation places youth leadership at the center of everything we do, creating opportunities for young people to lead, innovate, and shape the decisions that affect their communities. By investing in the ideas, talents, and aspirations of emerging leaders, we are nurturing a generation capable of driving transformational change. We recognize that leadership is cultivated through opportunity, responsibility, and service, and we are committed to empowering young Africans to become catalysts for progress and agents of positive social change.
Mentorship
We understand that unlocking the potential of young people requires more than access to opportunities; it requires guidance, encouragement, and meaningful relationships. Through mentorship, the African Youth Foundation connects emerging leaders with experienced practitioners, changemakers, and professionals who provide support, knowledge, and inspiration. We believe that mentorship is an investment in people and a powerful tool for cultivating confidence, leadership, and lifelong learning. By fostering intergenerational connections and strengthening networks of support, we are helping young people transform their aspirations into impact and preparing the next generation of African leaders to create lasting change within their communities and beyond.
Integrated Impact
Across all our work, the African Youth Foundation embraces the understanding that leadership, advocacy, gender equality, and mentorship are mutually reinforcing pillars of development. Together, these cross-cutting programs strengthen the capacity of young people and youth-led organizations to address complex challenges, influence systems, and create inclusive and sustainable futures. Guided by the belief that those closest to the challenges are closest to the solutions, we are building a continent where young people are empowered not only to participate in development, but to lead it.
Advocacy
Meaningful and lasting change requires that young people have a voice in shaping the policies and systems that affect their lives. Through our advocacy initiatives, the African Youth Foundation amplifies youth perspectives and promotes inclusive participation in decision-making processes. We champion policies and practices that advance social justice, accountability, and equitable opportunities for all. By strengthening civic engagement and fostering dialogue between communities and institutions, we seek to ensure that the aspirations and experiences of young people are reflected in the systems that govern society and influence the future of the continent.
Ecosystems
The African Youth Foundation believes that sustainable change is achieved not through isolated interventions, but through strong and interconnected ecosystems that enable young people and youth-led organizations to thrive. We work to cultivate enabling environments where communities, institutions, governments, philanthropic partners, private sector actors, and civil society organizations collaborate to address complex challenges and unlock opportunities for inclusive development. By strengthening relationships, fostering innovation, and promoting collective action, we are building ecosystems that empower young people to lead transformative change and create lasting impact across Africa and the diaspora.
We recognize that thriving ecosystems are essential to nurturing leadership, expanding opportunities, and accelerating social progress. Through strategic partnerships, knowledge sharing, capacity strengthening, and resource mobilization, we support networks that amplify youth voices and strengthen the institutions that serve them. Our ecosystem approach is grounded in the belief that those closest to the challenges are often closest to the solutions, and that meaningful change emerges when diverse actors work together toward a shared vision of a more equitable, prosperous, and resilient future.
At its core, our ecosystem-building work seeks to ensure that young people are surrounded by the support structures, relationships, and opportunities necessary to realize their full potential. By investing in interconnected systems rather than isolated programs, the African Youth Foundation is helping to create environments where innovation flourishes, collaboration deepens, and communities are equipped to sustain positive change for generations to come.

The African Youth Foundation (TAYF) is a continental platform dedicated to strengthening youth-led organisations and empowering young people to drive long-term social, economic, and systems-level change across Africa and the diaspora. With more than 70% of Africa’s population under the age of 30, the continent possesses one of the world’s greatest demographic opportunities, yet millions of young people continue to face barriers related to unemployment, unequal access to opportunities, and limited participation in decision-making. TAYF exists to ensure that young people are equipped with the resources, networks, and support necessary to transform these challenges into opportunities for sustainable development.
Through an ecosystem-driven approach, TAYF brings together communities, institutions, philanthropies, governments, and private sector actors to strengthen the environments in which young people live and lead. The Foundation recognises that sustainable progress requires collaboration and investments that reinforce one another rather than isolated interventions. By promoting youth leadership, advancing gender equality, amplifying youth voices through advocacy, and fostering mentorship and intergenerational learning, TAYF is helping to build inclusive and resilient societies. At a time when youth-led organisations receive less than 1% of global philanthropic funding despite their critical role in community development, the Foundation is committed to reimagining philanthropy and creating a future in which young Africans are recognised not merely as beneficiaries of development, but as its most powerful architects and leaders.
